Why We Skip Gel Polish for Pedicures
At Healing Waters Spa, we believe in treatments that truly care for your body — and that includes your nails. You may have noticed that we do not offer gel or shellac polish with our pedicure services. Here is why.
Gel Polish and Nail Health
Gel polish looks great and lasts longer than traditional polish, but it comes with trade-offs. The removal process — whether soaking in acetone or filing — can thin and weaken the nail plate over time. Repeated application can leave nails brittle, peeling, and prone to damage.
For toenails especially, this matters. Your feet work hard every day, and nails that are already under stress from footwear and activity do not need the added strain that gel removal creates.
A Low-Toxicity Treatment Environment
Our spa prioritizes a low-toxicity approach. Many gel polish systems require UV or LED curing lamps and involve chemical formulations that do not align with our wellness-focused philosophy. By choosing traditional polish, we keep the experience gentle — for both you and our estheticians.
What We Offer Instead
Our pedicures focus on what matters most: foot health, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Every pedicure at Healing Waters includes:
- Herbal foot soak
- Complete footwork and callous removal
- Nail and cuticle care
- Polish application with a quality traditional formula
You leave with beautiful nails and healthy feet — no damage, no harsh chemicals.
Already Wearing Gel Polish?
If you arrive for your pedicure appointment with existing gel polish, please be aware that a $15 removal fee will apply. Gel removal requires additional time, which may also result in a service adjustment. We recommend removing gel polish at home before your appointment if possible.
It Is About the Long Game
At Healing Waters, every decision we make comes back to the same question: does this support your well-being? Skipping gel polish for pedicures is one small choice that adds up to healthier nails and a more mindful spa experience.
