The Perfect Regimen For Your Skin Type: Oily Skin
Cultivating perfectly dewy skin or maintaining an acne-free face can feel nearly impossible when your skin produces excessive oil.
Like other skin types, oily skin is genetic, leaving the skin shiny (not perfectly dewy) and prone to acne. The good news is that oil provides skin moisture, giving a more plump look with fewer wrinkles.
How do I combat my oily skin? It’s important to note harsh and oil-stripping products do not benefit your skin at all. Instead, they cause your skin to produce more sebum; and overly heavy products sit on your face making your skin look extra shiny (but not perfectly dewy).
Most skincare routines have rudimentary steps: cleanser, serum, or toner, and moisturizer. The difference between an oily skincare routine and a dry or combination skincare routine is the active ingredients.
Ideally, using a cleanser with salicylic acid will help exfoliate your skin, clear your pores, and help maintain excessive oil production. Another active ingredient to introduce to your skin is glycolic acid; this AHA also gently exfoliates your skin preventing new breakouts, clogged pores, and blackheads.
If you’re considering graduating your skincare routine from a primary to a secondary level, consider exfoliating. Exfoliation is almost like a divine connector from acceptable skin to exceptional skin. We think the benefits will get you perfectly dewy skin.
Exfoliation lifts dead skin cells, evening your complexion and allowing serums and moisturizers to penetrate deeper. Grainy exfoliating scrubs are a big no-no, as they leave your skin irritated. We recommend chemical exfoliants like an AHA or a BHA. AHA house glycolic acid and lactic acid, and BHA houses salicylic acid. When vetting your new exfoliant, keep an eye out for these acids.
Depending on which side of social media you’re on, some people advocate for toners, and others swear by serums. Ultimately, either choice is based on how the product interacts with their skin. Our advice, if your skin is happy, you’ve made the right choice.
Moisturizing is an essential step and not designated for one area of the skin or a specific time of day. Oily skin can discourage you from wanting to add moisture to an already shiny base. We suggest using a lightweight moisturizer that hydrates and is free from oils.
Of course, we’re not striving for the universal idea of perfection, but we want to help you achieve your vision of perfection and, most importantly, confidence.
